LinuxWorld Boston: Day 1

LinuxWorld Boston has begun. We arrived last night, ran to the convention center, and did some basic setup in the booth. This morning we arrived at the convention center an hour or so before the doors opened and finished hanging the sign and setting up the booth. The booth turned out well and we got some nice compliments from attendees.

booth We have one Linux box and one Windows XP machine to display Mambo running on both platforms. We are showing Mambo version 4.5.3h and giving people a sneak preview of a recent 4.6 snapshot.

I thought the day would start off slow, but that was not the case. The doors opened at 10AM and by 10:15am we already had a group of people at the booth. The crowd was steady all day, so much so that I only got a few bites from my sandwich and had to chug my water. We talked with people of all experience levels. People new to Mambo seemed to really like it and many said they were going to give it a shot. Others that have been using for a while provided great feedback, nice comments, and were really excited about the stuff that's happening in 4.6.

There are tons of great vendors and open source projects here. We are lucky enough to be setup beside both KDE and Gnome. The KDE guys have a pet chameleon that is attracting a lot of attention. Cool little creaturecameleon.

Some other highlights / observations of the day included meeting people from SugarCRM, Intel, AMD, EnterpriseDB, etc. The Unisys team has a pretty elaborate booth setup here. It wasn't but 10 minutes into the event today when fire alarms starting ringing and big clouds of black smoke started rolling out from what looked like the Unisys sound system. Apparently, later in the day someone also fainted while walking through one of the lanes just a few away from us. I didn't actually see this one, but heard the paramedics came to the rescue. We heard she was ok so thank goodness for that. That's all for day one. We are off enjoy a few frosty beers.
