LinuxWorld Australia: Day 1Welcome to the Team Mambo Blog From LinuxWorld Australia. Part I: The Set Up
The Convention Center is nice, modern and well-sited. The Center fronts on to Darling Harbour, which is populated with a mix of shops, bars and restaurants. Really quite nice. The location makes it easy to get to from a variety of areas. I've been to a lot of trade shows over the years -- this one is starting to look like it will be a pleasure. Good setting, close to the hotel (for lugging around all the gear - joy) and near lots of places to escape the typical convention center food grind. Cecilia arrived mid-afternoon and we got together for coffee, then headed over to the Center to start setting up the booth. Mambo Communities is sponsoring us for this event and they've provided banners, table dressing, flyers and a couple of sweet iMacs for running the demos. Cecilia's been drafted to lug all this kit down from Melbourne. Lucky girl... We get into the Center - trade show space is filled with pallettes, construction workers and noise. We find our space and start unpacking our gear. We get set up in about 20 minutes. While we're at it, one of the construction workers from the HP booth (our neighbor) walks over and announces "Mambo - Power in Simplicity" and proceeds to tell us how much he loves the system! Turns out he's got about 150 pages online... We're off to a good start. We've been stuck over against one wall -- not optimal for traffic. Our view is totally dominated by the massive HP Pavilion -- complete with chocolate fountain (yes, you read that right). Still, gotta love having a neighbour which draws traffic. C & I leave for the day with plans to return Tuesday morning early for final setup. Monday night Cecilia & I get together with Peter for dinner and a couple of drinks. Wee Keat was supposed to join us but winds up getting into town very late. He takes a pass on dinner. Will have to wait to meet him until tomorrow morning at the Conference. I've never been to Sydney before and am blown away with how nice it is. Clean, modern, stylish. There's great shopping and great places to dine. I'll be coming back... Part 2: Show Day Wee Keat & Cecilia get an early start and take the iMacs over and set up the booth -- all the final trim. I arrive shortly thereafter and just in time for a Starbucks run. My body clock is 3 hours behind, making it very very early in the morning for me. Coffee....please... Doors open for the Conference at 8:00, for the trade Show at 10:00. We're ready to go but early morning foot traffic is confined to other trade show participants running around trying to get the first shot at any juicy freebies -- we meet a few more users. By 10:30, however, foot traffic is picking up and the show starts moving along pretty well from that point. There is only one other booth dedicated to Content Management Systems, though there are two integrators promoting heavily other similar applications, one in particular is promoting the Alfresco CMS heavily. (Alfresco is a mixed license CMS product focused more on the Enterprise and document management space in the market.) They've been getting a lot of press with their first release so it should be interesting to see how their traffic goes. |

I rolled into town on Monday morning bright and early. Touched down around 7:00 am after an overnight flight from Bali. Straight to the hotel and back to bed -- couldn't sleep on the plane. After a generous nap, I walked around the area and visited the venue. Grabbed a bite to eat and waited from Cecilia to arrive from Melbourne.
